Spaces to Tabs

Tip: Use this to fix text pasted from Word processors or to convert for code/plain-text needs.

About Replace Smart Quotes

This tool swaps curly (also called “smart” or typographic) quotes with straight quotes and vice versa. It’s useful when preparing text for code, CSV files, or systems that require straight quotes, or conversely when polishing copy for publications where typographic quotes are preferred.

Examples

Input: He said, “That’s great.”
To straight: He said, “That’s great.”
To curly: He said, “That’s great.”

How it works

  1. Paste or type your text into the box.
  2. Click Convert to straight quotes or Convert to curly (smart) quotes.
  3. Copy the result using the Copy button.

When to use

Use straight quotes for programming, CSVs, or systems that treat curly quotes as different characters. Use curly quotes for polished, print-like typography in articles and ebooks. If your text has extra spacing or unwanted characters, try Remove Extra Spaces or Remove Unwanted Characters.
